ESCAPE TO MERCER COUNTY FOR YOUR FAMILY SUMMER VACATION
Visitors to the Area Will Delight in Shopping, Recreation and Festivals Beginning in May
PITTSBURGH, Pa. --May, 2010-- Add variety to your summer routine with a vacation to Mercer County. From shopping extravaganzas, recreation at local parks and summer festivals, visitors to the area will enjoy an assortment of activities suitable for the whole family.
Kick-off the summer by celebrating Mother’s Day at the Prime Outlets Grove City, Pa. on May 9th. Visitors will receive up to 65 percent off prices on brand name merchandise. There will be early bird special offers from 9 to 10 a.m. and all stores will be open until 7 p.m. Prime Outlets Grove City is located on Leesburg Grove City Road.
The Annual Spring and Summer Flower, Yard and Bake Sale on May 14-15 in Mercer, Pa. will offer visitors the chance to buy beautiful annuals and perennials for gardens, decorated flower pots along with herb and vegetable plants. There will also be baked goods and antique and yard sale items. The event is located at the Children’s Aid Society building on 350 West Market Street and is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. Admission is free.
Pymatuning Deer Park in Jamestown, Pa. will host its opening weekend on May 15-16. Visitors will have the chance to interact with over 250 animals from all over the world including exotic and domestic animals such as Siberian Tigers, African Lions, Black Bears and several species of deer. The children’s pony ride is a popular tourist attraction along with the scenic train ride on the "Deer Park Express." A picnic area and gift shop is available to guests and admission is $6.50 for ages 16 and up and $5.50 for seniors and children ages two through 15. The park will open at 10 a.m. and is located on 804 East Jamestown Road.
On May 31 at Mercer’s Historic Courthouse Square, visitors can experience the Mercer Memorial Day 500. Activities include a 5K race, a veterans’ reception, a patriotic program and parade and Memorial Day Salute featuring Vietnam Veterans. The event starts at 9 a.m. with the parade beginning at 11 a.m.
