MERCER COUNTY COMMUNITY FESTIVALS CELEBRATE THE FINAL WEEKS OF SUMMER

--Your Escape to Classic Cars, Live Music and Beautiful Art--

PITTSBURGH, Pa - August 4, 2009 -There are only a few weeks left of summer and Mercer County’s event calendar is full of family-fun festivals that will allow visitors to capture the essence of the season and enjoy the last few days of summer.

The 7th Annual Car Cruise in downtown Sharon, Pa. will feature a classic car cruise and show on August 8.  Families will enjoy outdoor live entertainment, great food, a craft show and artist bazaar. Over $2,000 in cash prizes will be awarded and a $10 registration fee will enter show attendees into the “Cruisers Only” cash raffle. Check-in starts from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and guests are asked to bring their chairs.

On August 14, visitors to the Mercer County Jamboree at the Historic Courthouse Square can enjoy live music from a variety of genres including bluegrass, gospel, country and blues. The free concert begins a 6 p.m. and will kick off with an ice cream social. The rain location is Mercer High School Auditorium.

The Great Stoneboro Fair has been a family tradition for 142 years and will take place on Sept. 2-7 in Stoneboro, Pa. The fair is known for its promotion of agriculture and will feature extreme events such as the 2009 U.S. Freestyle Motocross Championship series, a demolition derby and Dave Martin’s Bull Ride Mania. Visitors will also enjoy a livestock and agriculture exhibit, carnival rides, a Zambelli Fireworks Internationale display and a performance by country music sensation Chuck Wicks. Admission is $10 and includes a parking pass, entrance to shows at the grand-stands and midway rides. The fair is located on 2381 Mercer Rd. right off of Route 62.   

Visitors that take pleasure in the artistic side of life will enjoy the 7th Annual Nature Art Show on Sept. 25-27 at the McKeever Environmental Learning Center in Sandy Lake, Pa. At the show, artists will display paintings, photography and ceramics depicting the environment and wildlife. Gallery hours are Friday from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
